The trails are located in the rich mountains of Appalachia in southern West Virginia. Browning Fork Trail Description
The Browning Fork Trail System consists of approximately 115 miles of trail. The Browning Fork Trail System has one trailhead/ranger station called "Rockhouse." The breakdown in trail percentage on this system is as follows: 51% are green trails (easiest), 31% are blue trails (more difficult), 11% are black trails (most difficult), and 7% are orange trails (single track only). This trail system has direct access to the city of Gilbert, WV, gas, full service food, and lodging.

Pinnacle Creek Trail Description
The Pinnacle Creek trail system consists of approximately 105 total miles of trail. The Pinnacle Creek Trail system has one trailhead/ranger station known as CastleRock. The breakdown in trail percentage is as follows: 44% are green trails (easiest), 35% are blue trails (more difficult), 21 percent are black trails (most difficult), and 0% are orange trails (single track only). This trail system has direct access to food, fuel, and lodging in the city of Pineville, West Virginia.

National Millenium Trail
Hatfield~McCoy Trails brings national recognition to West Virginia as one of 16 trails systems in the country designated a National Millennium Trail.

Millennium Trails project is a White House initiative to build and maintain trails that tell the story of our nation's past and help create a positive vision of our future.

ATV Magazine Award
Each year ATV Magazine test dozens of ATV accessories; most of these products make your ATV ownership more enjoyable. There is always one product that stands above the rest for its unique design and value to ATV users. To this product, ATV Magazine awards the Product Innovation Award. The best new product created for ATV owners in 2002 was the Hatfield-McCoy Recreation Area.

National Coalition of Trails Award 2003
This national award was bestowed upon the Hatfield-McCoy Trails for the "Outstanding Construction of a Long Distance Trail System." This award once again confirms that the Hatfield-McCoy Trails are leading the nation in recreation preservation and trail development.

In 2004 the Hatfield McCoy Regional Recreation Authority was recognized for its achievements by the United States Department of The Interior, National Parks Service. This recognition designates the Hatfield McCoy Trails as a NATIONAL RECREATION TRAIL in the National Trails System.

Trail Rules
All trail users must have a Hatfield-McCoy Trail permit on their person at all times.
All trail users except hikers must wear a DOT, SNELL or other approved helmet, protective eyewear and over the ankle footwear.
Motorcycles and ATVs must have a properly functioning muffler and USFS approved spark arrestor.
No passengers on any ATV, unless the ATV is manufactured for one passenger.
ATV riders must meet manufacturers minimum age requirement.
The trail system is open from sunrise to sunset.
All users must be off the trail by sunset.
Stop if you are signaled by a Ranger.
All trail users must enter and exit the trail system at and only at a Hatfeild-McCoy Trailhead or town access point.
All Off-Highway Vehicles on the trail must be 50 inches wide or less.
No alcoholic beverages may be consumed or carried on the trails.
No camping or fires are permitted on or around the trails or trailheads.
Please do not leave any litter on the trails. Those who litter will be cited and prosecuted.
Adult supervision is required for all children under the age of 16.
Do not enter any gated or "No Trail Entry"" areas for any reason.
Obey all signs and stay on marked trails.
Carry photo identification at all times.
